i hate it when we have so many gorgeous papers in our kits (both sides) and i can't decide which one to use as my background. it's terrible isn't it? we really do have it sooo rough! ha!
a 'must-buy' is the package of lavish trimmings by Tim Holtz. they are white to begin with. but at some ink. or mist. and you have a custom colour to match your layout!
little mr. frosty was cut out using Tim Holtz winter wonder die. love how the PinkPaislee artisan element worked so nice for his scarf. i coloured it using the Ranger Colour Spray in Butterscotch.
artisan elements are neither porous or non-porous. they are similar to grungeboard in their qualities. you can use inks and sprays to add and keep colour, but it is usually very subtle. they will handle alcohol inks or other techniques that you would use on acrylic to get a deep and permanent colour. the artisan elements are bendable, so you are not limited to using them on just a flat surface. they are also easy to cut. they are white/cream, which makes them great for any paper colour.
i misted my chipboard snowflakes once with the Hula Hoop mist. when they were dry, i inked them with tea dye (medium brown) and broken china (blue) distress inks. then i painted them with rock candy crackle paint. again waited for them to dry. then i inked with more of the inks, as well as using walnut stain (dark brown) at the end.
yeah. i went just a bit overboard with my snowflakes! i definitely got my money's worth out of those punches. sigh.

for one tiny section, i actually only cut a portion of the edge. that will work with any edge punch. i've seen it on sooo many layouts lately and love the look!
in my little opinion, i love to use it for getting 3 small snowflakes at once. i just cut them apart. super quick.
as well as the single large snowflake punch.
there is a little snowflake on the Snowman die too...had to use it as well! 2 of the chipboard dies are available in the class room at Urban. this one is made by Sizzix and is available for purchase off the shelves. i loved the snowflake edge die when i first laid my eyes on it. i cut out several, layered them with pop dots.
think my snowflake addiction shows?!?! {i think this addiction will lengthen my lifespan. that is what i tell myself, anyway.}
if i am ever in doubt of a colour of letter sticker to buy....i get white! i actually painted the glimmer mist on my letters with a paintbrush, then stamped them when they were dry. depending on your project colours, even a pale colour will also work nicely.

if you haven't done so already, you can begin to sign up for my year in review classes at Urban Scrapbook. each month my double page layouts will focus on a technique. the cost each month will vary, depending on the supplies we need. these monthly layout classes are open to everyone, and there are several customers who sign up from month to month. the advantage to registering in advance for the year is to guarantee a spot as well as the opportunity to have 2 more layouts to complete your album...the front/introductory page and the back/ending page. the "bonus" class is not available for those not part of the year-in-review album class.
