Year in Review and techniques!

the technique of the month for January is ALCOHOL INKS. with a twist!

Photobucket

i am gearing up for my first layout of my 2011 Year in Review classes. you can see last years' layouts here.

in 2010 it was the first time i had been involved in a year-long class. i loved the challenge. this year we chose to mix it up even more. the focus each month will be on a new technique. each participant will have a set of 12 double page layouts, a bonus introductory and closing layout {only for those registered for the year} - 26 layouts in total. i love classes where i leave with a product. however it is so easy to forget that you also learn new techniques as part of the lesson. i try to encourage my students to experiment, and make the layout more about themselves.

it's a great opportunity, but not for everyone who wants to commit a year in advance. the good news is, each monthly technique class is open for new registrants. you can choose to take classes as they come up. i'll definitely be posting sneak peaks and announcing the monthly classes here on my blog. the information will also be on the website for Urban Scrapbook. and each new class is also announced in e-mails sent from the store. (if you haven't subscribed already, you can do it right from here.)

your options are always Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings. {i'd recommend you register early to get the spot you want.}

i only wish this paper came in every colour. it is on my list of "i hope they print this one again!"

and the purple ribbon. gasp! fortunately for me, it does come in nearly every colour. hooray!!

i first saw Lori make her snowflakes like this. and i've been doing it ever since! so simple, but so effective.

and here is where the technique comes in. each layout will be guaranteed to be slightly different. without a doubt. but we'll all have fun getting the desired look we want.

i don't care what you have heard about alcohol inks....they are so versatile. and forgiving. if you don't like it, then you have options. easy options.

Photobucket

as we learn the technique i will be sure to share tips i've learned the hard way. and the easy way! as always, i expect to hear more tips from others as we experiment.

and those are not plastic rhinestones. the photo does not do them justice. they have a sparkle like diamonds. i want all of them, in every size.

did i mention that i LOVE this technique?!

it isn't just for winter layouts. i have some other stamps that are begging to be used this way. i am definitely hooked.

so there you have it. i hope you are able to join me. we will have lots of fun!!
